Main roles and responsibilities of the Lead Member
- Support the delivery of the Progress with Unity missions and Council Plan
- Provide leadership for equality, inclusion and the safety of women and girls, championing a borough-wide approach that reflects our All Different, All Equal commitments
- Promote the safety of women and girls by supporting partnership activity to prevent violence, harassment and abuse, and by championing safer communities for all
- Work across partners to strengthen prevention, early identification and support for domestic abuse, ensuring a whole-system response that supports victims, survivors and their families while holding perpetrators to account
- Champion lived experience by ensuring the voices of women, girls, survivors and under-represented communities inform policy development, service design and decision-making
- Promote the meaningful involvement of residents with lived experience in shaping council policies, strategies and community-led solutions
- Champion equality, dignity and wellbeing in health and social care services, ensuring the voices and experiences of people receiving care, carers and families are reflected in improvement activity and strategic decision-making
- Maintain a strategic interest in the quality, safety and safeguarding of adult residential and nursing care, working with partners to understand learning from inspections, quality assurance activity and resident feedback
Priorities for 2026/2027
- Support the delivery of the Domestic Abuse Strategy, strengthening prevention, early intervention, awareness and support for victims, survivors and their families
- Champion action to improve the safety of women and girls, working with partners and communities to prevent violence, abuse and harassment and promote safer environments for all
- Promote equality, inclusion and belonging by supporting delivery of the All Different, All Equal promises and ensuring the voices of under-represented communities and people with lived experience shape policy, services and decision-making
- Champion the experiences of residents, carers and families within health and social care services, promoting dignity, inclusion and person-centred approaches
- Work with health and social care partners to support continuous improvement in adult residential care, with a focus on quality, safety, safeguarding and resident wellbeing
