Main roles and responsibilities of the Lead Member
- Support the delivery of the Progress with Unity missions and Council Plan
- Promote pride in place by supporting greater resident involvement in maintaining and improving local environments
- Work with the portfolio holder to increase recycling and reduce environmental crime through stronger engagement with residents, communities and businesses
- Support the delivery of frontline environmental and neighbourhood services, including action on potholes, fly-tipping, littering and local environmental quality
- Support the delivery of the Climate Change Strategy, encouraging residents, communities and partners to consider and reduce their environmental impact
- Support the Council's Community Wealth Building approach, including promoting heritage assets and local initiatives that encourage people to live, work and spend locally
Priorities for 2026/2027
- Champion initiatives that improve neighbourhood appearance, increase civic pride and encourage residents to play an active role in caring for their local area, such as Pride in Place
- Tackling litter, fly-tipping, environmental crime and improving the quality of the public realm
- Increasing recycling, supporting climate action and promoting environmentally responsible behaviours
