Main roles and responsibilities of the Lead Member

  • To support the delivery of the Progress with Unity missions and Council plan
  • To lead on the successful delivery of the borough’s ‘Be Well’ movement creating a borough where people are healthy, active, and happy through the integration of leisure and wellbeing services
  • To deliver the borough's ‘Creating Health’ Health and Wellbeing Strategy for 2024 – 2034, through improving the wider determinants of health in the borough supporting community health and wealth building.

Priorities for 2025/2026

Through leadership on the delivery of the 'Creating Health' Health and Wellbeing Strategy to:

  • Lead a movement, and culture, of wellbeing by building relationships with residents, as partners and the workforce
  • Leverage our assets for health and focus on the factors that determine health, and which we can influence locally
  • Focus our action to accelerate health improvement in communities to achieve equity of outcomes, opportunity and experience
  • Shift efforts and resources towards prevention through our partnership for health and wellbeing.

Through the Be Well movement for health and wellbeing to:

  • Fully embed the transition from traditional Leisure to Active Wellness
  • Develop a core model that includes both clinical and self-referral supporting people living with a wide range of physical health conditions
  • Expand the universal offer
  • Embed a strong customer focussed digital offer to support primary, secondary and tertiary care
  • Develop a fully integrated Community Health Improvement Service targeted at the top 20% most deprived, focussed on prevention
  • Ensure a whole person approach to Health Improvement
  • Launch the Be Well Pass
  • Re-open Norley Hall Adventure Playground
  • Offer place-based working solutions in our Be Well Centres
  • Demonstrate impact by developing a performance framework in partnership with Public Health
  • Continue to invest in our assets to provide the high-quality services that our residents expect and maximise the opportunity to deepen partnerships in pursuit of the transition to Active Wellness.
