Implement the Deal 2030
Chair of the Housing Advisory Panel
The formation of housing related policies and strategic priorities to deliver a home for all
Strategic direction and oversight of services provided to Council Housing tenants and promote the tenant voice
Wigan's approach to tackling homelessness
Supporting residents to mitigate welfare reform
Financial inclusion and local welfare provision
Work with Portfolio holder Planning and Environment to ensure bereavement services are accessible to all residents
The Council's Heritage Champion, advocating for the preservation and enhancement of the borough;s heritage buildings.
Priorities for 2019/20
Implementation of the key priorities set out in our Deal 2030 - Our Place, Our People, Our Future
Delivery of 'A Home for All' transformation programme including:
Delivering homes to meet local needs, through the Council's new build projects and by working with partners
Adoption of a new asset management strategy
Redesign of the accommodation offer for older people
Development of the private rented sector in partnership with stakeholders, including development of a social lettings agency
An approach to homelessness that follows the principles of PSR
Review of the allocations policy
Implementation of a new boroughwide in-house right first time repairs service
Chair the Housing Advisory Panel to provide challenge around services delivered to council tenants, ensuring Wigan Council is a good landlord providing quality services and promoting sustainable tenancies
Deliver tenant engagement programme, with the goal of tenants participating in improving their housing services
Deliver Wigan's financial inclusion and fuel poverty strategy
Lead work to understand the impact of Welfare Reform and support residents through the changes
Support residents funeral service aligned to welfare role
Develop the Historic Environment Strategy for the Borough and refurbishing the listed Ince Chapels.
