There are new requirements for E-rated food businesses.
Food safety and hygiene self-assessment
Food businesses that are classified as low-risk (category E) and meet compliance standards must fill out a self-assessment questionnaire to confirm they are following food safety and hygiene rules.
The purpose of the questionnaire is to make sure food businesses follow the law and make compliance easier. This means Wigan Council can spend more time and resources on businesses that aren’t following the rules, helping keep the public safe.
Completing this questionnaire is a type of remote inspection that allows Wigan Council's food safety team to check the risk level of a business and how well those risks are controlled.
The business will not receive a new food hygiene rating, and the current rating will apply.
If your business has received a letter asking you to complete the questionnaire, please complete the food hygiene self-assessment within 28 days of getting the letter.
We may contact you if we need further information or evidence once the questionnaire has been submitted.
If your food handling has changed or we receive a food complaint, an environmental health officer may still need to physically inspect your premises.
You are legally obligated to notify us of any changes to your food business. Or if the premises has changed ownership the new food business owner is legally required to complete a food registration form.
