Food premises approval

Generally, food businesses that need to be approved are those that manufacture food of animal origin such as meat, dairy, egg or fish products.

Food premises of this type must meet extra requirements above those used for general food premises, as they usually involve more high risk operations.

These premises are approved under  hygiene rules for food of animal origin regulations.

Premises may require approval by the local authority or the Food Standards Agency.

Apply for approval

It is an offence to begin trading without a conditional or full approval for your food business. Businesses which do this may be prosecuted.
