The aim of this bulletin is to give the public advance notice of roadworks in the Wigan Council area. The council recognises that roadworks can cause inconvenience and it is hoped that this information helps to minimise delays and other problems associated with the works.
This bulletin is updated weekly and every effort has been made to provide accurate and up-to-date information, but it is not intended to be a definitive list and cannot cater for works carried out at short notice. The council also reserves the right to make changes to the programme if emergencies arise.
For any emergency work that has a major impact on the road network, we aim to notify members of the public via Wigan Council's social media pages as soon as possible.
Emergency Works
- Miles Lane, Appley Bridge - There are currently emergency works being undertaken by Electricity North West with temporary traffic signals in place. Works are expected to be completed by 8th April
- Wigan Road, Ashton in Makerfield - There are currently emergency works being undertaken by United Utilities with temporary traffic signals in place. Works are expected to be completed by 10th April.
Major Works
- Leigh Regeneration Project - Market Place and Civic Square, Leigh - The Major Projects team have an improvement scheme at Market Place and Civic Square, Leigh. Works started on 20th October and are expected to complete in April for Market Place and July for Civic Square. For further information please visit the schemes currently under construction webpage
- Ashton Town Centre Regeneration - Wigan Council and Bethell Group are delivering a major scheme of works throughout Ashton Town Centre. Starting February, investment is being made in a new multifunctional public square, with new market offer, footpath improvements and carriageway safety improvements. - Bolton Road, Atherton - The Major Projects Team and The Casey Group are delivering improvements on Bolton Road, Atherton from 2nd March for approximately 12 weeks. Works include a new toucan crossing and a raised table to be completed under temporary traffic lights and a temporary closure for the final surfacing. - Parsons Walk, Wigan will be closed one way at its junction with New Market Street on Sunday 5th April between the hours of 08:00 and 19:00 only
- Bickershaw Lane, Bickershaw will be closed outside House Number 545 on 27th April between the hours of 09:30 and 15:00 only
- Church Street, Orrell will be closed at its junction with Lodge Road on 5th May between the hours of 09:30 and 15:00 only
- Shuttle Street, Tyldesley will be closed from its junction with Castle Street to its junction with Union Street on 17th May between the hours of 19:00 and 22:00 only
- Frog Lane, Wigan will be closed at the Railway Bridge on 18th May to 7th June between the hours of 23:30 to 06:00 only on Mondays to Fridays, 23:30 to 07:00 only on Saturdays and 23:30 to 10:00 only on Sundays
- Hall Lane, Hindley will be closed at its junction with Railway Street on 14th June between the hours of 09:00 and 15:00 only.
Resurfacing
- Warrington Road, Ince will be closed from its junction with Orrell Street to its junction with Phoenix Way on Sunday on 12th April
- Leigh Road, Leigh will be closed from Outside House Number 288b to Outside House Number 661on consecutive Sundays only on 12th, 19th and 26th April between the hours of 07:30 and 19:00 only
- Bickershaw Lane and Smiths Lane, Hindley Green will be closed from Outside House Number 667 to Outside House Number 16 on consecutive Sundays only on 19th April, 26th April, 10th May and 17th May between the hours of 08:00 and 19:00 only
- Prescott Lane and Eccles Road, Orrell will be closed from its junction with City Road to Outside House Number 51 on 26th April between the hours of 08:00 and 19:00 only
- Bolton Road, Ashton in Makerfield will be closed from outside Lighting Column 72 to its junction with Riding Lane on consecutive Sundays only on 31st May, 7th June and 14th June between the hours of 08:00 and 19:00 only
- Shevington Lane, Shevington will be closed from its junction with Old Lane to its junction with Kilburn Drive on consecutive Sundays only on 14th, 21st and 28th June between the hours of 08:00 and 19:00 only
- Lovers Lane, Atherton will be closed from its junction with Wigan Road to its junction with Atherleigh Way on consecutive Sundays only on 28th June, 5th July and 12th July between the hours of 08:00 and 19:00 only.
Events
- Iron Man 70.3 takes place on Sunday 7th June affecting various roads across Leigh, Abram, Platt Bridge and Bickershaw. All details can be found on the Iron Man road schedule document.
