The aim of this bulletin is to give the public advance notice of roadworks in the Wigan Council area. The council recognises that roadworks can cause inconvenience and it is hoped that this information helps to minimise delays and other problems associated with the works.
This bulletin is updated weekly and every effort has been made to provide accurate and up-to-date information, but it is not intended to be a definitive list and cannot cater for works carried out at short notice. The council also reserves the right to make changes to the programme if emergencies arise.
For any emergency work that has a major impact on the road network, we aim to notify members of the public via Wigan Council's social media pages as soon as possible.
Emergency Works
- Atherton Road, Hindley Green - There are currently emergency works being undertaken by United Utilities with temporary traffic signals in place. Works are expected to be completed by 5th February 2026.
Major Works
- Leigh Regeneration Project - Market Place and Civic Square, Leigh - The Major Projects team have an improvement scheme at Market Place and Civic Square, Leigh. Works started on 20th October 2025 and are expected to complete April 2026 for Market Place and July 2026 for Civic Square. - Bolton Road, Ashton in Makerfield - PP O'Connors are working to provide a sewer connection to the Meridian 6 site, work is taking place under two way signals from 27th January to 8th February
- Preston Road / Pepper Lane, Standish - Electricity North West are providing a residential property with eletric, work is taking place from 27th January to 2nd February under multi way lights
- Lovers Lane, Atherton - Electricity North West are finalising a cable upgrade from 14th to 22nd February, during these works, Lovers Lane will be closed to traffic travelling from Athereigh Way to Wigan Road, access to the Crematorium will be available during the works from Wigan Road. At the same time, work will be on Atherleigh Way to allow cable pulls to take place
- Almond Brook Road, Standish - Wigan Council contractors will be installing a puffin crossing near to the junction of Almond Green Avenue from 16th to 20th February, work will carried out using temporary signals
- Warrington Road, Springview - Electricity North West will be providing a new customer connection at the junction of Darnhall Street from 16th to 20th February using temporary 2 way signals between 9:30 and 15:30 only
- Warrington Lane, Wigan - Wigan Council will be replacing a damaged gully connection near the junction of Sovereign Road under temporary two way lights in place 24/7 from 23rd February to 27th February.
Resurfacing
- Bridge Street, Golborne will be closed from Outside House Number 88 to the junction of East Lancashire Road on consecutive Sundays only on 1st February and 8th February
- Haigh Road, Aspull will be closed from its junction with Victoria Close and Outside House Number 36 on 1st February between the hours of 08:00 and 19:00 only
- Mosley Common Road, Tyldesley will be closed Outside House Number 109 to the junction of St John's Road on Sunday 1st March between the hours of 08:00 and 19:00 only
- Bickershaw Lane and Smiths Lane, Hindley Green will be closed from Outside House Number 667 to Outside House Number 16 on consecutive Sundays only on 19th April, 26th April, 10th May and 17th May 2026 between the hours of 08:00 and 19:00 only
- Prescott Lane and Eccles Road, Orrell will be closed from its junction with City Road to Outside House Number 51 on 26th April between the hours of 08:00 and 19:00 only
- Shevington Lane, Shevington will be closed from its junction with Old Lane to its junction with Kilburn Drive on consecutive Sundays only on 14th June 2026, 21st June 2026 and 28th June 2026 between the hours of 08:00 and 19:00 only.
Road Closures
- Kenyon Lane, Lowton will be closed from its junction with Wilton Lane to outside House Number 45 on 10th February
- Hall Lane, Hindley will be closed at the Railway Bridge on 30th March to 24th April.
