The aim of this bulletin is to give the public advance notice of roadworks in the Wigan Council area. The council recognises that roadworks can cause inconvenience and it is hoped that this information helps to minimise delays and other problems associated with the works.
This bulletin is updated weekly and every effort has been made to provide accurate and up-to-date information, but it is not intended to be a definitive list and cannot cater for works carried out at short notice. The council also reserves the right to make changes to the programme if emergencies arise.
For any emergency work that has a major impact on the road network, we aim to notify members of the public via Wigan Council's social media pages as soon as possible.
Major Works
- Ashton Town Centre Regeneration - Wigan Council and Bethell Group are delivering a major scheme of works throughout Ashton Town Centre. Starting February, investment is being made in a new multifunctional public square, with new market offer, footpath improvements and carriageway safety improvements.

- Elliot Street/Shuttle Street, Tyldesley - The Major Projects Team and The Casey Group are delivering improvements in Tyldesley Town Centre to install two new crossing points on Elliott Street and Shuttle Street.
Shuttle Street, Tyldesley will be closed at the junction of Union Street on 18th September and 19th September between the hours of 22:00 and 06:00 only.
Elliott Street, Tyldesley will be closed at the junction of Well Street on 25th September between the hours of 22:00 and 06:00 only and 26th September between the hours of 19:00 and 06:00 only.

- East Lancashire Road and Stone Cross Lane - The Major Projects Team and AE Yates are delivering highway improvements (a new traffic lane and crossing upgrades) at the A580/Stone Cross Lane junction, under temporary signals and lane closures.
Closures will be in place on the following dates:
Stone Cross Lane North will be closed between A580 and Yew Tree Way Roundabout on 17th, 18th, 21st, 22nd, 25th, 28th and 29th September between the hours of 20:00 and 06:00 only.
A580 East Lancashire Road will be closed eastbound between Golborne Roundabout and Church Lane on 23rd and 30th September between the hours of 20:00 and 6:00 only. A580 East Lancashire Road will be closed westbound between Golborne Roundabout and Church Lane on 24th September and 1st October between the hours of 20:00 and 06:00 only Stone Cross Lane South will be closed between A580 and Grange Farm will be closed on 2nd October between the hours of 20:00 and 6:00 only.

- A49, Wigan Road, Standish - The Major Projects Team and Bethells are delivering highway improvements with the installation of a new crossing point, close to the Roundmoor Road junction, improving access to key green spaces in the area, including Ashfield Park. Traffic management will be required to safely complete the construction, but will be coordinated to help maintain traffic flow and maximise the school summer holiday period. A temporary road closure will be required to complete the final surfacing, with ample notice provided. Works will commence on 27th July for approximately 11 weeks.

- Atherton Road, Hindley Green will be closed at its junction with Carlton Grove on 4th October between the hours of 8:30 and 13:00 only
- Lily Lane, Bamfurlong will be closed at its junction with Kintbury Street on 4th October between the hours of 8:30 and 13:00 only
- Robin Park Road, Wigan will be closed outside Wigan Community Fire and Ambulance Station (One Way Only) on 8th October between the hours of 20:00 and 23:00 only
- Wigan Road, Atherton will be closed outside House Number 3 on 11th October between the hours of 8:30 and 12:00 only
- Warrington Road, Wigan will be closed at the junction of Highfield Grange Avenue (left turn lane only) on 24th October 2026 to 1st November 2026
- Golborne Road, Ashton in Makerfield will be closed outside House Number 58 on 30th November 2026 between the hours of 19:00 and 22:00 only

- Spencer Road, Wigan will be closed at Whitley Crescent roundabout on consecutive Sundays only on 13th, 20th and 27th September between the hours of 8:00 and 19:00 only
- Spencer Road West, Wigan will be closed from outside House Number 32 to the Railway Bridge on consecutive Sundays only on 13th, 20th and 27th September between the hours of 8:00 and 19:00 only
- Stone Cross Lane North, Lowton will be closed between A580 and Yew Tree Way Roundabout on 17th, 18th, 21st, 22nd, 25th, 28th and 29th September between the hours of 20:00 and 06:00 only

- Warrington Road, Ince will be closed from outside House Number 212 to outside House Number 240A on consecutive Sundays only on 18th and 25th October between the hours of 8:00 and 19:00 only
- Manchester Road, Ince will be closed from the junction of Pickup Street to the junction of Moat House Street on consecutive Sundays only on 15th and 22nd November between the hours of 8:00 and 19:00 only
