Access to open space and opportunities for sport and recreation make an important contribution to physical and mental health and wellbeing.
The Open Space, Sport and Recreation Provision and Needs Assessment assessed over 1,300 sites across the borough in 2014/15. A detailed picture of the quantity, quality and accessibility of open space and sport facilities across the borough has been established and any shortfalls and areas in need of improvement have been identified.
The report examines provision at a borough-wide and settlement level allowing each area to be assessed against the quantity and accessibility standards developed through the study. This is to ensure that sufficient provision is available and accessible across the borough and that targets are met in the future.
