Food Hygiene Rating Scheme: Apply for a re-rating

Re-rating visits → Suspended

As a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) all re-rating visits to food businesses have currently been suspended. Any requests submitted will be actioned as soon as it is possible to do so.

You have a right to apply for a re-rating with a view to obtaining a new and higher food hygiene rating at any time, provided that you have made the required improvements to resolve the non-compliances identified at the time of inspection.

Re-inspections deferred due to COVID-19

The food inspection program has been deferred due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and therefore we are unable to award any new food hygiene ratings at this time.

What you can do

If you are currently a business with a rating of 0, 1 or 2 and you have made improvements to your business in preparation for a re-inspection you can complete the form below and this will be considered by an Environmental Health Officer.

  • Any supporting evidence i.e. documents, photographs, can be emailed to the Environmental Health Team
  • If the evidence suggests that the necessary improvements have been made, your record will be updated, and the FSA website will be changed to ‘awaiting inspection’
  • When the food inspection programme is reinstated, we will contact you to arrange payment of the £175.00 fee. This is payable before any inspection can be arranged
  • If the evidence provided does not indicate that the necessary improvements have been made, the previous rating will remain on the FSA website.

Operating your business during COVID-19

If you intend to operate your food business during the COVID-19 pandemic you must follow government guidance on the safe operation of a business.
