Ceremony FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance can I book?

You can book a ceremony up to 3 years in advance. Please be aware that prices may increase on an annual basis so it's best to make sure you've paid the total fee as soon as possible.

How do I change or cancel my booking?

To change or cancel a booking you will need to complet our online form:

Do I need to bring any ID with me on the day of my ceremony?

No, we have checked your ID at your notice of marriage appointment.

How many guests can I have?

Guest numbers depend on the venue. Council venues have a limit on the number of guests permitted, so you will need to check this before you book.

You and your partner are not included in total numbers. However, children and babies are included in the total guest numbers.

Can I bring any pets to my ceremony?

Dogs are allowed at ceremonies at the Lodge in Mesnes Park.

We do not allow pets at ceremonies at Wigan Life Centre and Wigan and Leigh Town Halls.

For all other venues, please confirm with the venue when you make your booking.

What time should we arrive for our ceremony?

To make sure everything runs on time on the day, please arrive 30 minutes before your ceremony start time.

How long will the ceremony last?

Your ceremony will last no more than 30 minutes.

Are there any restrictions to music and readings?

You can choose any music or readings that you wish, if they do not contain any religious content.

Your readings and music choices should be submitted to us 8 weeks before your ceremony so that we may review your choices and let you know if there are any issues. A ceremony planner will be emailed to you 29 days after you have given notice of marriage or civil partnership, you will then return your ceremony planner to us with your music and reading choices.

If your ceremony is at a Council Venue (Wigan Life Centre, Wigan or Leigh Town Hall and Mesnes Park) music must be provided by yourselves and played on your own device.  This can be controlled by one of your guests through a mobile phone and a Bluetooth speaker.

If your ceremony is at an approved, licensed, venue, arrangements for playing music will be made prior to your ceremony with your venue.

Will I hear from you before the ceremony?

Yes. We will send you an email approximately 6 weeks before your ceremony with the final details and any further advice you may need. We will also send you a final email 1 week before your ceremony to confirm everything is in place for your big day.

How do I order certificates?

You can order your marriage certificate after your ceremony.
