Carers Week

What is Carers Week?

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.

A carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, illness, mental health condition, addiction, or who needs extra help as they grow older. It isn’t someone who volunteers or is employed to provide support.

The theme for Carers Week this year is ‘Putting Carers on the Map’ and we are reaching out to carers at different locations across the Wigan and Leigh Borough through our Carers Roadshow. We’re also celebrating all that carers do in our borough by inviting carers to a Carers Music Festival on Saturday 15th June.

We recognise the vital role that carers play in our communities. We want to say thank you, celebrate all that you do and help you to feel visible, valued and supported.

Carers Roadshow

We will be visiting places across the borough with our Carers Roadshow from Tuesday 28th May to Friday 14th June with advice, information and people who want to listen and offer support. You will see us in our Carers Roadshow vehicle or with a stall in a community venue so please come and say hello.

On the Carers Roadshow, you will be welcomed by colleagues from Adult Social Care, Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre and other community partners for a warm welcome and friendly chat where you can find out more about support for carers and their loved ones.
