Consultation on the Publication version of the Wigan Borough Local Plan (external link) closed at 5pm on Wednesday 21st October 2026. Thank you to all residents, businesses and other stakeholders who submitted views.
Subject to Council approval on Wednesday 25th November, all of the comments received, the Local Plan and all supporting documents will be submitted to the Government for independent public examination before the end of December.
All consultation responses will be considered through the independent public examination process, including at public hearings if required by the examining inspector.
The proposed timetable for the submission and public examination of the Local Plan is set out in the Council's Local Development Scheme.
Supporting documents and evidence base
The Publication version of the Local Plan is supported by a robust evidence base, a full Integrated Assessment of its policies and proposals against sustainability, health and equality considerations, and a Habitats Regulations Assessment.
