
Consultation on the Publication version of the Wigan Borough Local Plan is open from 5pm on Wednesday 9 September until 5pm on Wednesday 21st October 2026.
The views of residents, businesses and other stakeholders are important to us. During the consultation period, you can view and comment on the Publication version of the Local Plan on our consultation portal (preferable) at:

All comments received to previous consultations on the Local Plan, at earlier stages of its preparation, have all been considered and have helped to shape this Publication version of the Local Plan.

The Publication version of the Local Plan is supported by a robust evidence base, a full Integrated Assessment of its policies and proposals against sustainability, health and equality considerations, and a Habitats Regulations Assessment.

What happens next?
After the consultation on the Publication version of the Local Plan, we will collect and review all the comments received, and present them with the Local Plan to full Council, to seek approval to submit the Local Plan.
Subject to Council approval, all of those comments, the Local Plan and all supporting documents will be submitted to the Secretary of State for independent public examination.
All consultation responses will be considered through the independent public examination process, including at public hearings if required by the examining inspector.
