The current Greater Manchester Minerals Plan and Waste Plan were adopted in 2013 and 2012. However, national policy and legislation have changed since then. These plans need updating to make sure that planning policies are up to date and effective.
The 10 Greater Manchester authorities (Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan) have agreed to work together to produce a new Greater Manchester Joint Minerals and Waste Plan (GMJMWP).
The GMJMWP will seek to deliver sustainable development and resource efficiency, setting out a planning strategy for waste management and a sufficient supply of minerals.
Work on the GMJMWP will be coordinated by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) on behalf of the 10 authorities, and a plan timetable and formal notice to commence plan-making will be published in due course.
