Hello, I’m Hannah
My role: Social Value Coordinator
Where I work: Galliford Try, Building North West
What do I do in my role?
I deliver and report our businesses social value. Social value is our commitment to the local community, making sure we improve the economic, social, and environmental wellbeing of the areas we work in.
What’s my career journey?
After graduating with a Business degree, I started my career as an Events Coordinator for a wedding planning company, but quickly realised it wasn’t the right fit for me. I moved into education, working at a university as an Account Manager, designing and delivering mentoring projects to help vulnerable young people explore higher education. That’s when I realised how important it is to me to be in a role that drives positive change and supports people.
I then became a Community and Partnerships Manager at a secondary school, designing and delivering a strategy to support the students, families and the wider community so the school was in the heart of the community. As much as I loved working in education, I was ready for a new challenge. I wanted to keep supporting communities, so I changed sectors and now work in construction as a Social Value Coordinator.
What’s the best thing about my job?
Constantly working to support communities and making a real difference to people’s lives.
My top skills
- Organisation – managing social value across multiple projects all at one time
- Analytical Skills – understanding reports and metrics to maximise impact for both the community and the business
- Communication Skills – to effectively liaise with a wide range of stakeholders.
Good personal qualities to have
- Confidence- to stand up for what you believe in to see real change
- Passion– to go above and beyond to create meaningful impact
- Ambition – to help shape the evolving social value landscape.
What do I want to do next?
I want to keep creating meaningful social value across the North West, while continuing to build my skills and grow my knowledge of the construction sector along the way.
My advice if you want to do what I do
Go for it! Don’t be afraid to change sectors and start fresh in a new role - you won’t change yourself if you don’t challenge yourself.
