My Role Senior Project Manager

Where I work:  JJH Building Contractors Ltd

What do I do in my role?

My role at JJH Building Contractors Ltd involves overseeing the day-to-day operations, delivery of works, through to completion and handover of the works projects.

What’s my career journey?

From an early age I was always interested in construction, and after leaving secondary school I went straight to college to complete my NVQ apprenticeship in plumbing, whilst working in the family business.

During my apprenticeship, I gained employment with JJH Building Contractors Ltd and began to use the skills I had learnt at college, whilst working on construction sites.

During the following years I picked up other skills, by constantly growing my portfolio of knowledge and understanding of all associated trades.

I was offered an opportunity to increase my career development and commenced a minor works supervisory role, this enabled myself to follow a supervisory route into management which led to the role I am currently undertaking.

What’s the best thing about my job?

I really enjoy seeing jobs grow from conception to completion.

I gain job satisfaction when projects are completed, and the idea has become reality.

My advice if you want to do what I do

If construction is the industry you would like to undertake, choose a trade that interests you.

Apprenticeships are a great way into the industry, gain as much knowledge as possible within the chosen trade whilst you complete your apprenticeship, and keep on learning.

When on site ask questions and take an interest in other trades.

Build your knowledge and skill set around all the different associated trades.

When opportunities arrive don’t be afraid of giving something a go.
