Applying for a reception class place for September 2020

If your child was born between 1st September 2015 and 31st August 2016, they will start reception class at the start of the new school year in September 2020.

The closing date for on time applications was 15th January 2020.

National Offer Day 16th April 2020

If you applied online for a reception class place for your child before 15th January 2020, you will be able to view your offer online from 16th April 2020.

Allocation emails for applicants who applied online will be sent from 9am on 16th April 2020. You do not need to wait for your email to view your result as you can follow the link above to the Admissions Portal and log in at any time from 16th April.

Allocation letters for applicants who applied on a paper application form will be posted first class on 15th April 2020.

If you applied after the closing date, 15th January 2020, you will receive the result of your application early in June. If you have not yet made an application or if you would like to submit new preferences, please see the section below on late applications.

How to appeal

If you have been refused one or more of your preferences your letter will include details of how places were allocated and how to appeal. You can lodge your appeal using the paper appeal form we have sent to you or through one of the options below:

  • Catholic primary schools in the Archdiocese of Liverpool – you can request an appeal form online at Archdiocese of Liverpool (external link)
  • Other Primary Schools in Wigan (except for schools in the Archdiocese of Liverpool and Mab’s Cross Primary) – Class size appeal form
  • For Mab’s Cross Primary – Non-class size appeal form
  • For schools in other Council areas please contact that Council directly using details on your letter. Note - You must not use the Wigan Council appeal form for schools in other Council areas.

It is important to note that accepting a place at the school offered will not affect how an appeal is heard.

Late applications

If you have not yet applied for a primary school place, or you wish to change your mind about the preferences or the order of preferences after the closing date, you must complete a late application form.

We will only look at late applications and late changes of preference after we have dealt with the applications we received on time. This means that you are less likely to get a place at the school you want.

It is important that you read the primary school admissions 2020/21 booklet below before making your application.

If any of the schools you want your child to go to is a Wigan voluntary aided primary school the governors will need extra information so that they can consider your application against their faith criteria. If you do not give this information your child may be refused a place. You are strongly advised to complete a supplementary information form for each voluntary aided school you name as a preference.

Parents are responsible for checking that supplementary forms sent by post have been received by the school.
