Wigan Council is undertaking a review of Council Tax accounts where a Single Person Discount is currently awarded. The review is being carried out on our behalf by NEC Software Solutions UK Ltd, our appointed service provider who are authorised to contact residents and collect information relating to this review.
All enquiries are being handled by NEC Software Solutions UK Ltd so please contact them directly if you receive a review letter.
Why are we doing this?
We regularly review Council Tax discounts to ensure they remain accurate and that residents receive any reductions they are entitled to. This helps us keep Council Tax records up to date and ensures everyone pays the correct amount.
How is the review being carried out?
All accounts that currently have a Single Person Discount are being checked. Where further information is required a review form will be sent. Review forms will be issued in September 2026.
If you receive a review letter, it will include:
- A unique 10-digit review reference number.
- Instructions on how to respond online, by telephone or by post.
If you are unsure whether correspondence is genuine, please contact the NEC Review Team on 01942 577000.
What happens if I don’t respond?
If NEC do not receive a response to a review request, they may be unable to confirm your entitlement to the discount and it could be removed from your Council Tax account, increasing the amount of Council Tax you must pay.
What information may I be asked to provide?
You may be asked to confirm:
- Who lives at the property.
- Whether anyone has recently moved in or out.
- Other information relevant to your Single Person Discount entitlement.
Most residents will only need to provide basic information to confirm their circumstances.
