MY:ND Space CIC is a community-led organisation in Leigh that provides peer-led support for neurodivergent people. Through support from the Manbassadors Health Building Fund, it developed a men’s peer support group to address social isolation, poor wellbeing and barriers to accessing traditional support experienced by neurodivergent men.
Many participants shared that they felt excluded from mainstream support services and traditional men’s groups. Attendance at early sessions was inconsistent, and some men disengaged because they did not feel the support reflected their experiences and needs.
By listening to residents and responding to their feedback, MY:ND Space redesigned the group using a strengths-based, structured and peer-led approach. Sessions focus on lived experience, practical coping strategies, mutual support and building meaningful relationships, creating a space where men feel understood and able to be themselves.
The changes have been significant. Attendance increased, previously disengaged participants returned, and members reported stronger social connections, improved confidence, greater self-awareness and a stronger sense of belonging. One participant said: “This is the only men’s group I have ever been where I feel like I can be myself.”
The group has since become a trusted support network, helping to reduce isolation and strengthen community connections. As well as improving wellbeing, it provides low-cost, preventative support that helps people manage challenges before they escalate, reducing reliance on more intensive services while building resilience and community capacity.
This case study demonstrates Progress with Unity in action. By listening deeply, building on people’s strengths and investing in relationships, MY:ND Space has created an inclusive community where neurodivergent men feel accepted, connected and supported.
