Development Opportunity

Wigan Council is seeking interest from developers interested in mixed use sites for residential/commercial/mixed use.

Site Overview and Potential

The Southgate site is a Council owned 1.1Ha development site, which was formerly the site of a bus depot, since demolished. The site is strategically located in a highly accessible and prime regeneration area (Wigan Pier)

The site has direct access from Southgate (A577) and backs onto the river Douglas. It is adjacent to the recently opened Edge Conference Venue and Todays Community Church Centre and near the well-known Wigan Pier location that is currently being regenerated for leisure, culture and residential uses. The site is also situated near the Eckersley Mill complex that is currently coming forward as an exciting new mixed-use neighbourhood for Wigan. The Southgate site has great potential for a mix of uses and could support more coordinated regeneration to the ‘Pier Quarter’ area.

Development at this site would need to complement the existing regeneration proposals at Wigan Pier and could potentially seek to provide a higher density water side living offer.
