Getting outdoors

Changes to leisure and wellbeing services → We're now called Be Well

From 1st April 2021 all leisure and wellbeing services previously managed by Inspiring healthy lifestyles will be managed by Wigan Council under the Be Well brand.

Whether you’re looking to ease your way back into fitness or are already a full time fitness fan, there’s something for everyone at Be Well whatever your age or ability.

Getting outdoors is a great way to explore your local area, parks and green spaces and get some fresh air in the process. Many outdoor activities are free and can be enjoyed at a time that best suits you, so why not try:

Local parks, grass pitches and nature reserves

A leisurely stroll, run or cycle at any one of our woodlands and parks is a great way to get your heart rate up and discover ancient woodlands, wetlands, canals and green spaces.

Many of these features can be explored in Wigan's Greenheart, with activities ranging from sailing, golf and horse riding, to walking trails and orienteering.

There are also a variety of quality sports facilities and adventure playgrounds in each of the borough parks with free events and activities running throughout the year - see parks to find out more.
