Community learning and short courses

Wigan Council Adult Learning also offer a wide range of tailored non accredited courses across the borough.

We offer sessions in community-based venues, including libraries, community centres and Family Hubs.

Our non qualification courses are designed to boost your skills and confidence so you’re ready to take your next steps. We have courses which we offer all year (term time only).

Digital skills

For those looking to freshen up their skills, or start using a computer for the first time, we offer digital skills for beginners and digital skills for improvers. These 6-week courses can be tailored to your needs.

Bridge to learning

Are you unsure on your next steps? Don’t know where to start with planning your future? Join our Bridge to Learning sessions to make Time for you. These sessions are free.

Bridge to learning is a weekly workshop focusing on mental health and wellbeing. We offer small group sessions which take an individual approach. Sessions will include creating a progression plan, journalling, mindfulness, building confidence and taking part in creative workshops. By the end of the course, you will have improved your self esteem and be ready to take your next steps.

Skills for success

Are you looking to improve your life skills? Join our Skills for Success sessions and gain the skills to enhance your personal and work life. These sessions are free.

Our sessions are designed for adults (aged 19+) seeking to boost their skills, confidence, and readiness for the job market.

You will gain:

  • Personal Well-Being - Explore self-care techniques, budgeting and meal planning
  • CV Writing - Build a strong CV that highlights your skills and strengths
  • Job Applications - Get step-by-step guidance on how to search and apply for jobs online
  • Interview Preparation - Learn about different types of interviews and how to approach them.

These sessions are an excellent opportunity to enhance your personal development, improve your career prospects, and build valuable life skills. Benefit from experienced instructors who are here to help you succeed.
