Many courses offered by Wigan Council’s Adult Learning and Skills attract government funding allocated by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA). These courses may be fully funded or subsidised (known as co-funded) by government funding.
To be considered eligible for enrolment on courses that attract government funding, learners must meet the eligibility criteria as follows:
- Adults are aged 19 or over the day that they start learning
- You must be resident within a Greater Manchester Local Authority district (or a neighbouring Liverpool City Region district on application)
- UK residency status - you must be ordinarily resident in the UK on the first day of learning and your residency status must not be listed in the individuals who are not eligible for funding section below
- ID and address proof - you will need to provide valid identification and proof of your address
- Asylum seekers - if you are seeking asylum, you are eligible to study with us if you have been legally living in the UK for 6 months or over and no decision on your claim has been made.
Depending upon your circumstances, we may need to see ID and proof of your immigration status.
If you are not eligible for a free course under the above criteria, you may need to pay a fee. For more information and advice please contact the Adult Learning and Skills team.
