The Housing Advisory Panel brings together tenants and Councillors to work in partnership, shaping and improving housing services for Wigan Council tenants.
The panel provides independent review, leads on scrutiny, and offers constructive challenge of housing services, ensuring that decisions are informed by the experiences and priorities of tenants. It acts as a key source of advice and influence, helping to shape housing policy and service delivery while providing feedback and recommendations to Cabinet on matters that are important to tenants.
As a central part of the tenant engagement structure, the panel works closely with other resident groups and engagement forums, sharing information and gathering feedback to ensure that tenant voices are heard at every level. This helps to strengthen accountability, improve transparency, and ensure that services continue to meet the needs of our tenants and communities.
Through collaboration, challenge, and shared experience, the Housing Advisory Panel provides leadership and support in driving continuous improvement, helping to ensure that tenants remain at the heart of housing services and decision-making.
Scrutiny Panel
Tenant Scrutiny is a tenant-led activity that gives residents the opportunity to independently review and influence housing services. Scrutiny panels focus on a specific service area, gathering evidence, reviewing performance and meeting with staff, to explore how services are delivered.
The tenant panel then assesses its findings and produces a formal report containing recommendations to the Housing Advisory Panel. These recommendations are then presented to the board and monitored to ensure agreed actions are implemented.
Tenant Scrutiny plays an important role in helping us improve services, increase transparency, and ensure that tenant voices are at the heart of decision-making. By working together, we can identify what is working well, highlight areas for improvement, and help shape services that better meet the needs of our communities.
