Sponsored by Go North West (external link), part of Go Ahead.

If there is one thing that brightens up the day, it’s a nice garden, and if you like gardening why not enter this season's garden competition.

Anyone with green fingers and a passion for gardening can apply, you just need to be a tenant of Wigan Council or live on one of our housing estates.

The competition has 7 categories:

  • Individual garden
  • Most improved or transformed garden (please send before and after photos of an unloved space that has now been transformed)
  • Eco garden
  • Communal/community garden - including sheltered schemes, high-rise and estates
  • Pots and baskets
  • School garden
  • Allotment/edibles.

You will be required to submit a minimum of 4 and maximum of 6 photographs with your application. You may only submit your garden under one category.

To enter the competition, please complete the Gardening Competition Application form.

By entering into the competition, photos of your garden may be shared on our social media platforms.

Competition open date: Monday 6th April 2026.

Competition close date: Friday 29th May 2026.

Gardens will be judged by a panel of volunteer tenant judges.

Shortlisting of entries will commence shortly after the competition closes. If you have been successfully shortlisted you will be contacted by a member of the team before 26th June.

Shortlisted gardens will be visited by the panel of tenant judges, visit date to be confirmed.

Prizes will be awarded to the winner and runner up of each category at an awards event later in the year.
