Fostering information sessions

Are you thinking about fostering?

We're excited to welcome more foster carers to our community, and our friendly team are holding a range of events to go through the fostering process. This includes virtual information sessions, in person community events, and stalls at events organised across Wigan Borough throughout the year.

These events are open to anyone who is ready to start the fostering journey, wants to find out more information, or support someone they think would make a good foster carer.

Local community events

Come along and meet one of our foster carers who can talk to you about their experience of fostering, and meet a member of our social work team who will talk you through the process of becoming a foster carer.

  • Sunday 21st May, 10am-1pm at Dino Days at Haigh Hall, WN2 1PE
  • Tuesday 23rd May, 10am – 12pm at Tesco Café, Hindley, WN2 3AT
  • Tuesday 23rd May, 10am-12pm at Fur Clemt, WN5 9XN.

Come and Meet our Wigan foster carers

Our new style Foster for Wigan information sessions are held monthly in line with our marketing campaigns across the borough which showcase the many areas of expertise that our carers hold and the different types of foster care that you could become involved with. They are hosted by our local foster carers and a member of the fostering team. There will be the opportunity to understand more about the fostering process through informative talks, question and answer sessions and informal chats. The Come and Meet series allows you to meet and learn from our experienced carers: the best people to help you to understand what the fostering journey is all about.

We understand how busy life can be, so our sessions run in the evening to give you the opportunity to attend around work commitments.

Once you’ve booked your place, you will receive all the information you need to attend the event.

Supported Lodgings virtual information event

Supported lodgings aims to offer young people stability and a chance to gain essential independent living skills to support them with becoming a responsible adult and to enjoy a rewarding life. As a supported lodgings host, you would need to be able to offer the young person a room of their own, provide emotional support and a chance to learn life skills.

These virtual information sessions are ran by our supported lodgings team every third Wednesday of the month and will provide you with a chance to learn more about this type of fostering placement and ask your questions.

We understand how busy everyone is, so you can join these sessions from the comfort of your home, in the evening to help work around job commitments.

Once you've booked your place, we will email you with further instructions on how to join the day before the event.

Unable to attend one of our sessions?

Our team is here to discuss your fostering options. You can contact us by calling 01942 487200 or complete our online fostering enquiry form and we will get back to you.
