Light Night festival returns to dazzle Wigan town centre
A leading light in Wigan Borough’s cultural calendar is set to make a dazzling return in November.
Light Night is a free festival of beautiful illuminations and is back for 2025 and will be hosted in Mesnes Park.
It will be fifth incarnation of the popular event three-day event and visitors are encouraged to book their free tickets quickly to avoid disappointment.
Based primarily in the park, visitors to the town centre will also be able to spot artworks at local landmarks such as King Street and Wigan Parish Church during the festival.
Councillor David Molyneux MBE, Leader of Wigan Council, said: “Light Night is a standout moment and has become a much-anticipated time in our cultural year, bringing together families, artists and communities in celebration of creativity and heritage.
“We’re proud to keep it free and accessible — I’d encourage everyone to book early and be part of something truly special.”
Curated by arts and culture organisation Things That Go On Things, Light Night brings international and local creators together to create awe-inspiring and thoughtful artworks.
Councillor Chris Ready, cabinet member for communities and neighbourhoods, said: “Light Night Wigan is back and bigger and better than ever in Mesnes Park. We can’t wait to welcome so many incredible artists, and it’s sure to be a fantastic night out for everyone to enjoy.
“Tickets have been flying off the shelf, which shows how important it is that we’re able to offer this free family event for local people.”
Featured artists this year include the duo Heinrich & Palmer who are known for their ethereal projections and will be showcasing their ‘Data Mining’ project, focussing on how history manifests in the present day.
Meanwhile, Wigan and Leigh College alumni Venessa Scott, creator of the bright mural by the bus station is weaving her magic on King Street, using colour and design to bathe the street in bold projections that show the vibrancy of the area.
