Plantation Gates and Lodges are now open.
The Grade II* Plantation Gates and Lodges have been transformed into a visitor information space in the South Lodge and immersive art installation in the North Lodge.
An extensive transformation has seen the beloved Gates and Lodges fully restored, the work carried out includes:
- New roofs on both lodges using 18 inch Burlington blue slates, approximately 270 were used per Lodge
- Exterior stone work had a light steam clean to remove debris but keep the character of the Lodges
- Steel grate flooring and a glass balustrade added to the North Lodge
- Bespoke sash windows created and installed
- Bespoke furniture and blinds installed
- Accessible toilet added in the South Lodge
- Both Lodges have been decorated to a high standard
- Floors tiled in the South Lodge
- Externally, the pedestrian gates have been restored and reinstated, and the wing walls on either side of the lodges have been repaired and rebuilt
- External lighting which will allow themed lighting has been installed. Bollards have been installed, and tarmac and resin works are complete
The North Lodge houses an immersive art installation, created by artist Leo Mercer and James Hooton. The experience has been inspired by Haigh’s history, nature and stories, exploring four themes:
- Wonder
- Meditate
- Remember
- Discover
The Lodges are open 10:30am to 2:30pm throughout school holidays and 10am to 2pm Friday, Saturday, Sunday in term time.
The renovation of Plantation Gates was funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund and Wigan Council.
