All aboard the Haigh land train
The beloved train is back and will be running in running between Haigh’s courtyard and Plantation Gates.
The memorable attraction will run every day in the summer holidays, at events like Foodie Friday, then at the weekends in the Autumn.
Portfolio holder for communities and neighbourhoods, Cllr Chris Ready said: "The land train being brought back is iconic. Residents have been asking for this for years and here it is! It will open up new areas of the park for so many people, making visitor destinations like Plantation Gates so much more accessible."
Two trains will operate from 10.30am, with the last ride around 3pm. Dogs are welcome on the train, and the journey will last around 20 minutes one way. No bookings are required, visitors can purchase tickets from the driver with cash or card.
The train is being operated and maintained by a third party and is part of the wider transformation at Haigh.
Haigh Hall and the surrounding woodland park is undergoing an exciting multi-million-pound restoration programme, funded by Wigan Council, National Lottery Heritage Fund and Levelling Up Funding.
Work is progressing across the site at the Bothy Yard which is being transformed into an outdoor, event and volunteer space.
Haigh Hall is under-going a huge transformation, planning permission was granted earlier this year for the Hall to be transformed into vast gallery space, an education hub, flexible events space, cafe, and restaurant, as well as the addition of a rooftop bar.
