Wigan and Leigh Life Centres will be closed from 3pm on 24th December 2025 (Christmas Eve) and will reopen at 9am on 5th January 2026.
Customers can still access welfare support by visiting welfare support or calling 01942 705221 between 9am and 5pm on 29th, 30th and 31st December 2025.
Registrar appointments will be available by appointment in Wigan Life Centre between 10am and 4pm on 29th, 30th and 31st December 2025 and 2nd January 2026.
Wigan and Leigh central libraries will close at 3pm and community libraries will close at 2pm on 24th December 2025 (Christmas Eve). All libraries will re-open on 5th January 2026.
The corporate contact centre is open until 4pm on Tuesday 24th December 2025.

All cemeteries will be open to visitors during daylight hours over the holiday period.
Burials will take place from 9am to 11am on 24th December 2025.
No burials will take place on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Burials will take place from 12pm to 2:30pm on 2nd January 2026.
Normal bookings will be resumed on 29th and 30th December 2025, and then from 5th January 2026 onwards.
Cremations will take place on 24th December 2025 and 31st December from 9am with the last cremation service being 11am.
The chapel and office at the crematorium will be closed 27th and 28th December 2025 and 1st January 2026.
Normal services will take place on 29th and 30th December 2025 and 2nd January 2026, then return to normal service from 5th January 2026.
During the festive period, you can contact the Bereavement Services Office by calling 01942 489003. The line will be open between 9am to 12pm on 24th December 2025, 9am to 4pm on 29th and 30th December 2025, then 9am to 12pm on 31st December 2025.
The Bereavement Services Office will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
To check bin collection days over the festive period, refer to your bin collection calendar or visit bins and recycling.
Green bin collections will be suspended from 29th December until 9th January. They will resume either week commencing 12th January or week commencing 19th January, dependent on the area you live.
Please put your bin out by 6:30am on your collection day.
Collection times may vary due to traffic conditions and the extra waste collected over the festive period. Any changes due to severe weather will be available on Wigan Council’s social media and website, or by calling our telephone helpline 01942 404364.

Recycling centres will be closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. They will be open every other day between 9am and 5:45pm.
The sites are exceptionally busy during the festive period so please try to sort your waste before attending site, minimise your number of visits, or delay your visit until the new year.

TechMate Tea Parties are a free drop-in session for anyone looking for support with basic digital skills.
There will be no sessions between 22nd December 2025 and 5th January 2026.
