Funded childminders

Childminders can apply to the local authority to deliver funded early years provision if they are registered with Ofsted.

Government have advised local authorities of the following:

  • To only fund childminders for 2 year olds if the childminder has been awarded good, or outstanding at their last Ofsted inspection. Or they are awaiting their first inspection in which case a decision to continue funding will be made on the publication of the childminders first Ofsted inspection report.
  • To fund childminders for 3 and 4 year olds if the childminder has been awarded Requires Improvement, good or outstanding at their last Ofsted inspection. Or they are awaiting their first inspection in which case a decision to continue funding will be made on the publication of the childminders first Ofsted inspection report.
  • Not to fund any childminder for 2, 3 or 4 year olds if they have been identified as inadequate unless the inspector and the local authority have identified steps were taken on the day of inspection to rectify any issues identified. Funding will be removed and parents will be supported to find an alternative provider to access their free entitlement.
