Lifeguard courses are a great way for competent swimmers to gain even greater confidence in the pool.
Those completing our National Pool Lifeguard Qualifications successfully receive a recognised qualification and are well equipped for future careers in the leisure industry.
Each course takes five days, running from 8am to 5pm each day.
What skills do I need to take a lifeguard course?
National standards and health and safety requirements require you to be at least 16 years old, confident around the pool and able to:
- Jump/dive into deep water
- Swim 50 metres in 60 seconds or less Swim 100 metres continuously on your front and back
- Tread for 30 seconds in deep water
- Surface dive to the floor of the pool
- Climb out unaided without ladder/steps (where the pool design safely permits).

What happens if I successfully complete the course?
This course leads to the National Pool Lifeguard Award, Automated External Defibrillator and Emergency First Aid in the work place certification.
How much does it cost?
A lifeguard course will cost £250.
Where and when?
All courses in Wigan take place at Wigan Life Centre.

What do I need to bring with me?
Please ensure you have a pen, paper, suitable poolside attire - shorts, t-shirt, swimwear and towel, and spare shorts and a t-shirt for swimming in.
You should also bring lunch and refreshments each day.
