In the heart of Wigan town centre, Wigan Museum tells the story of the people and places of the borough through our vast collection of historic artefacts, ranging from prehistoric right through to the present day.
Workshops
We offer a selection of workshops for school groups which support learning across the curriculum. Pupils develop their skills through a range of activities including object handling, drawing, writing, observation, discussion, and immersive experiences. We want children to get to know their local museum and feel inspired by what they find.
- All sessions are FREE for schools in Wigan Borough

- For non-Wigan Borough schools - half day sessions cost £95 and full day sessions are £180
- To book a session contact Wigan Museum

Digital teaching resources
We have adapted one of our popular curriculum based workshops, 'Your Identity', into a digital activity. The activity is designed for use in the classroom or as a resource for parents and carers to access at home.
A free location-specific 'Your Identity' resource is available for each of the following areas: Ashton, Atherton, Golborne, Hindley, Ince, Leigh, Lowton, Platt Bridge, Shevington, Standish, Tyldesley, Wigan.
To request a copy of any of the packs, you will need to:
- Email Heritage and include your name, contact email and telephone and, if applicable, your school or organisation.
Once we have received your email we will send out the document as a PDF. To give you a flavour of the material in the resource, you can view our 'Your Identity' pack for Wigan.
