We provide high quality affordable properties which meet the needs of local communities. Since 2009, Wigan Council has built over 200 new homes for rent across the borough, which include houses, bungalows and apartments.
We aim to deliver truly accessible and affordable housing, with new homes being allocated through a local letting policy with an emphasis on a local connection. Each new tenant will be supported through the process with financial assessments and affordability advice.
We are currently on site building new homes, details of which can be found below:

Applying for a new build property
New build properties for rent are allocated in the same way as all other Wigan Council properties and you can search for a home and place a bid if you are already registered.
To apply you will need to get on the housing register.
Want to buy?
Wigan Council’s affordable homes scheme is aimed at giving first time buyers access to affordable homes on new homes developments.
The government has created a number of Help to Buy schemes (external link) to help people take steps to buy their own home.
For example with a Help to Buy: Equity Loan, the Government will lend you up to 20% of the cost of your newly built home, so you’ll only need a 5% cash deposit and a 75% mortgage to make up the rest.
