Do you have a view on what changes could be made to boost your local community? The council and partners has secured funding for an exciting project to make long-lasting improvements. As part of this Safer Streets project, we want to hear from you.

Complete the survey online and when you submit an e-mail address you will be entered into our prize draw. Over the coming months, as part of this project, you will see better street lighting and more effective CCTV installed. But there’s much more that can be added to the plans, so let us know what you think.

Clean-up day and waste amnesty

There will be a community clean-up day and litter pick in your area on Wednesday 23rd September and we would love you to join us.

We will be able to provide equipment and will organise the clean-up so it is safe, in line with the social distancing rules around Covid-19.

The event is part of the Great British September Clean-Up, which aims to tidy up local communities, rid them of litter and help to keep the streets clean.

We will be in the area throughout the day - we hope to see you there. A waste amnesty is taking place on Wednesday 28th October which means council teams will set up skips to takeaway household waste.

We will provide you with more details about locations nearer the time.

Did you know?

  • You can book for a free collection of up to three bulky waste items
  • Each property is entitled to this service once in a 12 month period
  • Includes kitchen appliances, furniture and wardrobes
  • Extra items can be collected at a cost of £5.50 per item
  • If you needed extra collections during a 12 month period, extra fees do apply
  • The council is cracking down on littering and flytipping
  • The fines people face for these environmental crimes have been increased
  • We hope to be a litter free borough by 2030
  • To report any incidents visit www.wigan.gov.uk/reportit

You can ask the council for help to make your home a bit more secure. To see if you are eligible for items such as door chains, snatch locks and security peep-holes contact The Deal for Communities.
