Local Plan, big events and Arise Sir Billy!

Local Plan, big events and Arise Sir Billy!

The deadline is approaching on the latest consultation period for our Local Plan.

Local Plans shape an area’s future development; from homes and jobs, to town centres, environment and transport.

This particular blueprint for our borough shapes how we will grow in the best way for current and future residents, tackling inequality, creating fair opportunities for all and ensuring our towns and neighbourhoods flourish.

This is the third stage of consultation, ahead of planned submission to government next year, and we want to hear from you and shape this future together.

Thank you to everyone who has taken part in the consultation so far.

We want to hear from as many people as possible so please do visit the website and get involved.

The consultation is open now and runs until Tuesday 24th June Wigan Borough Local Plan: Planning for the Future to 2040.

We were delighted to hear the news last week that Billy Boston is now Sir William John Boston KBE.

We have been part of the campaign to call for more recognition of rugby league in the UK Honours system and this is an important step.

Sir Billy has represented our borough and the rugby league community for decades and is a definite legend and pioneer of the sport we all love.

I hope that rugby league now continues to receive the recognition it deserves in the future.

We are now on the countdown to a significant weekend at Pennington Flash.

First, on Saturday 5th July, we have the visit of THE HERDS – the eye-catching wildlife exhibition.

The visit of THE HERDS to the borough is part of the Manchester International Festival, highlighting the impact of climate change and a warning about animals having to flee their natural habitats.

This is followed on Sunday, 6th July, by the family-friendly Flashes Festival of Nature is also hosted at the Flash.

The festival is an annual celebration of the nature and bio-diversity of the borough’s flashes. A host of workshops, entertainment, crafts and markets will also be part of the line-up.

Both these events are shaping up to contribute to an amazing few days at the Flash so please get involved.

For information about both events, see Visit Wigan (external link).
