Our service

Formerly Metrofresh, Local Kitchen has a proud reputation of providing a quality, cost effective and sustainable school meals service.

We use local and regional suppliers to minimise food miles, ensuring the best use of sustainable resources and supporting the local economy.

As the Wigan Deal is embedded in everything we do, we also support community activities across the borough, work with our wider partners in the Council on Love Food Hate Waste (external link) initiatives, and with schools on achieving Eco-Schools status.

Key facts

  • We hold the Good Egg Award (external link), which recognises companies that use cage free eggs or egg products
  • We work in partnership with schools to recycle more to support the environment and the Wigan Deal, the Council’s informal contract with residents to improve our borough.
