“I like everything about them. They’re chilled out and they treat us like part of the family. They’ve just accepted us.”
James, 14
We recently spoke to a group of cared for children to find out what they think makes a good foster carer and discovered it’s the little things our carers do that make the real difference to our local children and young people.
We welcome people from all walks of life to join our friendly and supportive fostering community, but we understand it can be daunting when you first start looking at becoming a foster carer and some may question if they are going to make a good foster carer.
Our team are here every step of the way to support you on your fostering journey. We aren’t expecting you to be a superhero! We are just looking for people with a kind and caring nature who have a passion for looking after children and want to support them on their journey to taking the next steps into adulthood.
Here are a few more things that local children and young people said made a real difference to them:
“A good foster carer just loves you and cares for you.”
Megan, 15
“A good foster carer is a person who listens to you. If you’re going through a tough time, they will always support you.”
Paige, 12
“A foster carer is a person who helps you when you’re struggling in school, who looks out for you, and takes you on days out, somewhere where you really want to go.”
Carla, 14
“She makes me food, she takes me places I want to go to, and she makes me home-made chips. She gave me a better room with a TV in it and a better bed. I love everything about it.”
PJ, 11
