Children’s centres provide support and activities to help parents, carers and childcare providers give children under five the 'best start in life'. These include:
- Early education and play
- Health services
- Information and advice about children’s services
- Parenting support.
You can find out about lots more activities taking place at children’s centres on the Family Directory website (external link).
Where are they?
There are five main centres:
Each will have a timetable of sessions of what is on available and where they will take place.
These centres will have close links to other providers, venues and organisations where families spend their time (linked sites and community places) - making sure that we work together to offer better services, closer to where you live.
They will also help to connect you to opportunities in your community like peer support networks, groups and volunteering.
What is Sure Start?
Sure Start is a government programme which works to make life better for children, families and communities.
What is a linked site?
These are the same buildings that used to be registered children’s centres. The Start Well Family Centre they are linked to, will offer lots of useful different services, information and support about the things their children need to be safe, healthy and learn - like childcare, baby massage, stay and play or parenting courses.
What is a community place?
These will be a growing network of venues/places where families spend their time like schools, sports clubs, nurseries, libraries and health centres. They will make sure that you and your family can access services locally (however they may not be running all the time).
