Consultation on admission arrangements 2024-25 

Admission arrangements include the admission number and oversubscription criteria which are used to decide on the allocation of school places.

There are proposed changes to the over-subscription criteria for a number of Wigan primary schools for admission to Reception Class in September 2024.

Changes to the admission arrangements for these schools may affect parents/carers applying for primary places from 2024 onwards. 

This is your opportunity to comment on the proposed changes before admission arrangements for 2024-25 are determined (by 28 February 2023).

Decision: Closure of Abram Bryn Gates Primary School

Wigan Council’s Cabinet considered the proposal to permanently close Abram Bryn Gates Primary on 9th June 2022.

Cabinet approved the proposal (subject to call-in).

Decision: Permanent expansion of Golborne High School

Wigan Council’s Cabinet considered the proposal to permanently expand Golborne High School on 21st April 2022.

Cabinet approved the proposal (subject to call-in).

The representation period for the proposal on the closure of Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary ended at 5pm, Monday 14 November 2022.

The consultation to reduce primary school places in the Ashton-in-Makerfield area closed on 3rd August 2022.

Responses will be considered by the Council’s Cabinet and they will decide whether to move to the next stage of consultation.

Responses will be submitted to the appropriate admission authority to consider when determining their admission arrangements for 2023-24. Admission arrangements for 2023-24 must be determined by 28 February 2022.

The consultation to reduce primary school places in the Abram area closed on 13 December 2021.

Responses will be considered by the Council’s Cabinet and they will decide whether to move to the next stage of consultation.

Consultation on admission arrangements 2022-23

This consultation closed on 12 January 2021.

Responses will be submitted to the appropriate admission authority to consider when determining their admission arrangements for 2022-23. Admission arrangements for 2022-23 must be determined by 28th February 2021.

Statutory Notice: Proposed Expansion of Hope School and College

This consultation is now closed.

Wigan Council proposes to enlarge and relocate Hope School and College by permanently expanding the school to increase its capacity to admit 230 pupils from 2021.

As part of the proposal to expand Hope School and College the school will need to relocate to the Central Park site.
