Consultation on admission arrangements 2027-28

Admission arrangements include the admission number and oversubscription criteria which are used to decide on the allocation of school places.

There are proposed changes to the over-subscription criteria for a number of Wigan primary and secondary schools for admission to Reception Class and Year 7 in September 2027. Some schools are consulting due to the requirement that schools consult on their admission arrangements at least once every 7 years.

The consultations on the admission arrangements for these schools may affect parents and carers applying for primary and secondary places from 2027 onwards.

This is your opportunity to comment on the proposed changes before admission arrangements for 2027-28 are determined (by 28th February 2026).

Community and voluntary controlled schools

Wigan Council is consulting on the admission arrangements for all community and voluntary controlled schools. The consultation document for community and voluntary controlled primary schools and nurseries details the reason why we are consulting, details of proposed changes (if any) and who you can contact if you would like to discuss the proposals further.
