Consultation on admission arrangements 2020-21 

Admission arrangements include the admission number and oversubscription criteria which are used to decide on the allocation of school places.

There are proposed changes to the over-subscription criteria for a number of Wigan primary and secondary schools for admission to Reception and Year 7 in September 2020.

Changes to the admission arrangements for these schools may affect parents/carers applying for primary and secondary places from 2020 onwards. 

This is your opportunity to comment on the proposed changes before admission arrangements for 2020/2021 are determined (by February 2018).

Community and Voluntary Controlled Schools

In response to  a recommendation from the Department for Education, Wigan Council is consulting on a change to the oversubscription criteria for community and voluntary controlled schools. We propose to introduce a new criterion 2 giving priority to children adopted from state care outside of England.

The following Own Admission Authority schools are proposing to adopt the Department for Education recommendation (detailed above):

Both schools are within the Wings' CE Trust. The Academy Trust proposes to give higher priority to 'children whose social circumstances mean that their needs can only be met at this school'.

The governors are proposing a change in the admission arrangements to reflect the changing worshipping community in Wigan due to Transforming Wigan.

Consultation on the proposed enlargement of Marsh Green Primary School

Wigan Council proposes to enlarge Marsh Green Primary School by extending the school premises to increase the capacity of the school to admit more pupils. The school will admit 60 pupils into reception class 2017 and subsequent years.

Consultation on the proposed closure of Shevington Community Primary School

Wigan Council proposes to discontinue the Shevington Community Primary School with effect from 27th October 2017 and enlarge Shevington Vale Primary School with effect from 27th October 2017 to accommodate the displaced pupils.
