Our Town Awards heroes donate prize money to Wigan & Leigh Hospice
A kind-hearted business has donated the prize money it received when it scooped business of the year at the Our Town awards to Wigan & Leigh Hospice.
Local business, Greenmount Projects, donated £2,000 – a combined total of a donation from the business, its prize money and a raffle they hosted at the Our Town Awards – to the hospice.
Greenmount Projects offered three fantastic sporting prizes from Wigan Athletics and Wigan Warriors for raffle at the recent Our Town Awards which recognised local people for their tireless efforts to improve their communities.
Paul Barton, director of environment at Wigan Council, said: “Local businesses are such a key part of our communities.
“Greenmount are a great example of community wealth building in action and this donation is another example of how they are giving back to our borough.
“We are always looking to partner with local businesses and work with them to build and improve our borough together."
Greenmount Projects were recognised at the Our Town Awards as business of the year for their commitment to community wealth building.
Mike Sharkey, from Greenmount Projects, added: “We were really grateful that so many people at the Our Town Awards supported the raffle and were delighted to be able to top up those raffle donations to £2,000 to go to Wigan & Leigh Hospice.
“It was an absolute thrill to win the community wealth building: Business of the Year at Wigan Council’s Our Town awards and it’s a privilege to be able to give back to our community in this way.”
Wigan and Leigh Hospice’s fundraising and lottery manager, Lindsey Butler, added: “We cannot thank Greenmount Projects enough for their generous donation, they have supported us through multiple fundraising efforts across the year and each one is gratefully received.
“Working with businesses like these go a long way in helping us to raise the funds needed to continue providing care to the community.
“As a charity, Wigan & Leigh Hospice needs to raise £18,500 a day so these donations are incredibly important to us all.”
