It’s time to dust off those litter pickers as the Great British Spring Clean (external link) is back for 2026 and will take place from Friday 13 March to Sunday 29 March.
Wigan Borough’s litter-picking legends are being called upon once again to help give our streets, parks and green spaces a well-deserved spruce up.
You don’t have to collect mountains of rubbish to make a difference, even one bag of litter can help make our neighbourhoods cleaner, brighter and more welcoming. Keep Britain Tidy’s annual campaign reminds us that litter picking is something anyone can do, and it’s a simple way to feel good, boost your mood and show some love for where you live.
The Council’s Keep It Clean campaign is on a mission to cut litter across the borough, and the Great British Spring Clean is the perfect chance to join in the fun.
This dedicated campaign complements the year-round litter picking and street cleaning carried out by the Council’s Street Scene teams and volunteers, whatever the weather, helping to make best use of resources while achieving lasting improvements.
Why get involved?
- Take pride in our borough – Our streets and green spaces are shared by everyone. Acting together helps create cleaner, more cared-for neighbourhoods
- Support your wellbeing – Spending time outdoors is proven to benefit mental wellbeing. Litter picking is a simple way to give back while enjoying fresh air and gentle activity
- Protect wildlife and the environment – Litter doesn’t just spoil our surroundings, it can seriously harm wildlife and pollute our waterways
- Build community connections – Working towards a shared goal strengthens community spirit and brings people together.
