Residents are being encouraged to get involved in this year’s Great British Spring Clean (external link).
Running from 17th March – 2nd April, residents can take part individually, volunteer in one of the local community litter picks or create a new litter pick group to help tidy our borough as part of the #BigBagChallenge.
Wigan Borough’s litter picking legends are being called upon to collect as little as one bag of rubbish which can make a huge difference to sprucing up our streets.
In its eighth year, Keep Britain Tidy’s annual campaign is calling on families, neighbours, friends and colleagues to join forces to pledge to pick a bag of litter from nearby streets and beauty spots in order to protect our vibrant communities and build a cleaner, greener borough for all.
This dedicated campaign runs in conjunction with the normal day-to-day litter pick collections which are carried out by the council’s Street Scene teams throughout the year, whatever the weather.
Why should you get involved?
- Take pride in our borough - we all share our streets and greenspaces, let’s take pride in our surroundings and remove litter from our streets
- Being outdoors is brilliant for our mental wellbeing - why not grab a litter picker and give back to your community while enjoying the great outdoors?
- Give wildlife a helping hand - as well as polluting our streets, parks and beaches, litter harms wildlife and other animals
- Community spirit - working towards a shared goal is a wonderful way to make friends and meet likeminded people.
