The Democratic Services team monitor and support the decision making process of the Council, through the supervision and publication of the Forward Plan, and the policing and publication of decisions. The section is responsible for the organisation of the meetings of the Council, its Executive, and its various committees and panels, whilst acting as the principal point of contact and support for elected Members.
More about the service
Democratic Services also provides support for the Mayor and the Council’s Executive, whilst undertaking a wide range of other duties such as the opening of tenders over £500K, school admission appeals, member development, the delivery of the Brighter Borough scheme and event organisation.
As a service at the very heart of the organisation, we are privileged to work closely with not only those with a democratic mandate, but also colleagues from a broad range of services, as well as partners and the public. We are also fortunate to be in a position to contribute significantly to the corporate strategy and play a real part in driving the organisation forward for the benefit of our residents, businesses and other customers.
We therefore take pride in delivering our services to the highest standard, while striving for continuous improvement and playing a strong role in the wider team that is Wigan Council.
