Spotlight on the Youth Cabinet's climate change promise

Youth cabinet climate promise

Wigan and Leigh Youth Cabinet are hugely active on the topic of climate change and tackling the climate crisis, with all members agreeing that it's one of their top priorities.

As part of Go Green Week, our Youth Cabinet members declared their 'Promises' to act on climate change.

What are the Youth Cabinet promises?

Our young people have committed to:

  • Buying more sustainable products to produce less waste
  • Walking to school rather than getting a lift in a car
  • Using less plastic packaged items
  • Recycling more and using less single-use plastic
  • Reusing water bottles to reduce plastic waste
  • Using public transport to get to college
  • Eat more veggie options
  • Work on environmental campaigns
  • Not eating red meats
  • Using less electricity
  • Not littering
  • Growing their own vegetables
  • Spread awareness on climate change and talk about it with people
  • Encouraging schools and colleges to be more environmentally friendly.

Why not Promise to Go Green too?

Taking inspiration from our fantastic Youth Cabinet and the young members on it, can you promise to tackle the climate emergency in Wigan Borough?

If so let us know by tagging us on our Instagram, or pages @WiganCouncil using #GoGreenWeek
