The £135 million redevelopment of the former Galleries shopping centre in Wigan town centre in partnership with Cityheart, will provide a vibrant new retail, leisure, commercial and residential destination in the heart of Wigan.

The project was granted planning consent in November 2021. Demolition of the old buildings is complete with construction expected to begin in autumn 2024.

The development aims to provide more reasons for visitors to come into the town centre during the day and extend their stay into the evening, maximising the vitality and viability of the town.

The redevelopment of The Galleries will include:

  • Six screen cinema
  • Music and E-sports venue
  • 10 lane bowling alley
  • Indoor mini golf
  • Food and drinks venues
  • Evening entertainment space
  • New hotel
  • 464 new homes
  • New market hall
  • Landscaped public realm square for annual outdoor events
