Introduction
Our core data protection obligations and commitments are set out in Wigan Council Primary Privacy Notice.
This notice provides additional privacy information for Prevent and Channel.
What personal data do we collect?
To carry out activities and obligations in relation to Prevent and Channel we process the following personal data:
- Name
- Date of Birth
- Address
- Telephone number
- Email address
- Parent/guardian/carer details
- Emergency contact details
- Details of any siblings.
We also process the following special category Data:
- Health-related data
- Race
- Ethnicity
- Political opinions
- Religious or philosophical beliefs
- Sex life
- Sexual orientation.
We also process Criminal Offence Data, including alleged offences.
How we use personal data
The main purposes for processing your personal data are:
- To ensure you are safeguarded from harm
- To fulfil our legal obligation for the delivery of Prevent/Channel duties
- To maintain records of the support and services we provide
- To monitor the number of people being referred into the service and the support they receive.
Legal Basis for processing
The lawful bases we rely on for processing your personal data are:
- Compliance with a Legal Obligation
- Performance of a Task in the Public Interest
- Under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015.
The conditions we rely on for processing your special category data and criminal offence data are:
- Reasons of substantial public interest
- Statutory etc and government purposes
- Preventing or detecting unlawful acts.
Who do we share personal data with?
In addition to the general reasons for data sharing described in the Council’s Primary Privacy Notice, we share data with and collect data from the following when required:
- Other teams within Wigan Council
- Other local authorities
- Government agencies including, but not limited to, Home Office
- Police, Probation, Youth Offending services
- NHS including but not limited to GP records
- Education providers.
This is not an exhaustive list.
How long do we keep personal data?
We will only retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any future legal, accounting, or reporting requirements.
We must continue to retain necessary data in accordance with our corporate records policy to fulfil legal, statutory and regulatory requirements.
Automated decisions
All the decisions we make about you involve human intervention.
