Introduction
Our core data protection obligations and commitments are set out in the Wigan Council Primary Privacy Notice.
This notice provides additional privacy information for Environmental Health, including food hygiene, food standards, food poisoning outbreaks, environmental protection, infectious diseases, health and safety where this falls within the Council’s remit.
What personal data do we collect?
To carry out activities and obligations as an Environmental Health Service we process the following personal data:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Address
- Telephone number
- Email address.
We also process the following Criminal Offence Data.
- Offences (including alleged offences), criminal proceedings, outcomes and sentences.
How we use personal data
The main purposes for processing your personal data are:
- In relation to the inspection of any premises in respect of food, water, land, air (including noise, radiation, vibration, artificial light etc.), chemicals, materials, plant and equipment for any purpose appropriate to the functions of the service
- Food Hygiene Safety applications and payments
- Workplace accident investigation
- Inspection of workplace activities and equipment
- Investigation of complaints or responding to enquiries
- Proactive enforcement activities to ensure compliance
- Intelligence sharing with enforcement partners.

How long do we keep personal data?
We will only retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any future legal, accounting, or reporting requirements.
We must continue to retain necessary data in accordance with our corporate records policy to fulfil legal, statutory and regulatory requirements.
