What if my relative needs to take medication whilst at the centre?

Our team of staff are on hand should you need any support with your medication. This will be discussed with you and your relative when you first attend the centre, so we can make arrangements to suit your needs.

If my relative attends the centre for the full day what meals will be provided?

We offer nutritional meals and refreshments which cater for individuals with dietary requirements. We pride ourselves on providing a high standard of meals and ensure that both our kitchen areas comply with food hygiene and safety procedures. We currently have a food hygiene rating of 5. As well as a full lunchtime menu, we offer tea/coffee and other beverages throughout the day.

Is there a charge for meals at the centre?

There is a charge for meals and drinks provided. Payment is usually daily, but alternative arrangements can be made if needed.

Are special dietary needs catered for?

We have trained catering staff who provide nutritious and balanced diets for people with specific needs and support for people with swallowing and digestive problems. Staff are also available at mealtimes to provide discreet assistance, encouragement and support.

Can you assist with maintaining continence?

All staff are trained and experienced in this area and are usually able to maintain continence by sensitive support and monitoring. If needed, staff will support you to use the bathroom and ensure comfort and dignity is maintained.

Can walking aids be used in the centre?

Walking aids can be used around the centre. Please ensure to let us know before attending the centre so we can make the appropriate arrangements with the transport staff.

How much is transport to / from the centre and how do you pay for it?

Transport to and from the day centre can be included in the 'package of care', which is determined when the assessment, support plan and attendances to the centre has been agreed with the customer, the carer, the social worker or social care officer and the day centre. Wigan Council charges for care services, and the cost of transport will be included on your itemised monthly invoice.

What happens if I need to cancel pick up?

Contact the day centre (select the relevant day centre to find the contact number) and they will let transport staff know, or you can contact the transport section directly by calling 01942 489690.

What happens if they are taken ill at the day centre?

We will ensure he or she will receive one to one care, constant observation and reassurance. A member of the day centre staff will inform next of kin and if necessary, will contact the GP or emergency services. Staff at the day centre will keep a written record of what has happened and the outcome.

How much does it cost to attend the day centre and how is payment made?

The cost will be discussed with the customer, a relative and the social worker before any arrangements are made to attend the day centre. Payment is usually made when you receive an itemised monthly invoice.

Can extra sessions be arranged at the day centre?

It is possible to arrange extra sessions, but a further social worker assessment will need to be carried out and extra days agreed.

Will the customer lose their place if they go away on holiday?

Places at the day centre remain in place during holidays, short term breaks and hospital admissions. Wherever possible, please inform the centre in advance so services can be cancelled.

Are records kept at the day centre?

We have a duty of care and responsibility to keep information about all customers at the day centre. This includes:

  • Diary sheets record changes and occurrences and daily entries are made by staff
  • Risk assessments are carried out and reviewed on a regular basis
  • Medication administration and prescription details are recorded and signed when administered
  • Activity sheets are kept for monitoring and evaluation purposes
  • Personal plans.
